Casablanca — Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held talks with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on the sidelines of meetings bringing together Arab foreign ministers in the Jordanian capital.
The discussions focused on efforts to preserve security and stability in the region and ways to strengthen coordination among Arab countries in response to ongoing challenges.
The meeting comes at a time of sustained diplomatic engagement between Rabat and Manama. In February, the two countries held the sixth session of the Morocco-Bahrain Joint High Commission in Laayoune, where several agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed.
The agreements covered customs cooperation, agriculture, food security, social protection and visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports. The session was also notable for being the first joint commission Morocco held with an Arab country in its southern provinces.
In Amman, Bourita and Al Zayani reviewed the longstanding ties between the two kingdoms and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in areas of common interest. Morocco and Bahrain have maintained close coordination on regional and international issues in recent years, with both countries regularly consulting on Arab affairs and multilateral diplomacy.
Earlier this year, officials from both sides also stressed the importance of strengthening economic relations to match the level of their political partnership.
The talks were attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Jordan Fouad Akhrif, Morocco’s Ambassador in Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Mohamed Aït Ouali, and Khalid Bencheikh, Director of Maghreb, Arab and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Monday, Bourita participated in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers and the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at ministerial level in Amman.
