Brazilian international Raphinha decided to remain in New Jersey instead of travelling with the Selecao to Houston, ahead of the knockout encounter with Japan in the Round of 32.
Raphinia is continuing his rehabilitation at the team’s training camp, in hopes of returning later in the tournament.
Medical tests showed that the injury affected the same muscle he tore during the international break last March, preventing him from featuring for Barcelona during a crucial stage of the season, as he was sidelined for five weeks at the time.
Brazil’s medical staff informed the player that he will miss at least two matches, including the final group-stage fixture and the Round of 32 clash against Japan. However, he could return in the next round if the Selecao continue their journey in the tournament.
Barcelona star chose to make the most of every extra day in his recovery, by undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme. It includes three therapy and training sessions every day inside Brazil’s camp..
Despite the recent off-field controversy surrounding him, Raphinha is fully focused on regaining his fitness. Meanwhile, coach Carlo Ancelotti hopes to have one of his key attacking players back for the latter stages of the tournament.
