Rabat – Morocco’s friendly match against Cape Verde on Monday ended in a 0-0 draw. The match took place in the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The friendly game was part of the Atlas Lions’ preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.
The team had already made history earlier this year when they achieved a momentous 2-1 victory against Brazil at the Tangier Grand Stadium in March 2023, making them only the second African team ever to win over the football powerhouse.
Their friendly encounter with Peru during the same month ended in a goalless draw.
Morocco’s national football team also made a name for themselves in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as they became the first Arab or African country to ever reach the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
Their outstanding performance captured the attention of audiences in Morocco and all around the world. On their journey to the semi-finals, the team knocked out a number of heavy-weight teams, including Portugal and Spain.
The team especially proved that achieving a World Cup title in the future is within their reach, as the national team’s coach Walid Regragui said when the team concluded their journey in Doha.
