Rabat – Italian football club Fiorentina is expected to set a new, lower transfer fee for Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat during the summer window.

Sports news outlet Football Espana said the news comes as a positive update for FC Barcelona, who have been reportedly seeking to have the Atlas Lions join them during the window.

The report said Barcelona could “potentially” secure a deal with Fiorentina for Amrabat for a transfer fee of around €20 million.

The news outlet said that the budget comes after Fiorentian’s failure to secure European qualification for the 2023-2024 season as well as Amrabat’s plans to exit the Italian club following his contract’s end.

The club would reportedly prefer the lower transfer fee to the Moroccan leaving for free after his contract’s end.

Football news outlet Marca also corroborated the news, recalling FC Barcelona’s interest in signing Amrabat.

The news outlet, however, recalled challenges that Barcelona is facing, most notably financial ones leaving little room in the transfer and wage budgets.

Marca also recalled other clubs’ interest in the Atlas Lion, including Atletico Madrid.

“Atletico de Madrid continues to like the current Fiorentina player and is closely following the evolution of this transfer market,” Marca said, adding that Amrabat wants to play in Spain

Nordin Amrabat, the footballer’s brother, has talked about his sibling’s future and desire to play in La Liga.

Commenting on rumors that Sofyan wants to play for West Ham, Nordin told ESPN: “Sofyan to West Ham? No, he wants to go to the top and his desire to play in Spain.”

“At Barcelona, he is high on the list but you know Barca’s financial situation,” he added.
