Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially launched discussions on Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa urging all football stakeholders to work together to ensure the success of the upcoming tournament.

During the FRMF Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday, July 16, Lekjaa described the 2030 World Cup as a strategic national project aligned with the vision of King Mohammed VI. Morocco will co-host the tournament alongside Spain and Portugal.

Call for early preparation

The FRMF president emphasized that Morocco will be under the global spotlight throughout the competition, making early planning, continuous work, and effective coordination essential to meeting FIFA’s organizational standards.

He also revealed that the tournament will be overseen by the Morocco 2030 Foundation in partnership with the FRMF, with both institutions working closely to coordinate preparations for the global event.

Modernizing Moroccan football

Lekjaa urged Morocco’s national leagues to modernize their working methods and organizational structures to meet the demands of hosting the World Cup.

He added that the leagues should play an active role in the organization process, contributing to the tournament’s success while helping strengthen Moroccan football’s reputation on both the continental and international stages beyond 2030.Alongside discussions on 2030, the Executive Committee reviewed Morocco’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the Atlas Lions’ quarter-final finish as a “positive and honorable” achievement.

Confidence in Ouahbi

Committee members highlighted that Morocco’s recent success, including the 2022 World Cup semi-final, the 2026 quarter-final, and the accomplishments of the country’s youth national teams, reflects the steady progress of Moroccan football in recent years.

The meeting concluded with the Executive Committee renewing its confidence in Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the national team’s upward trajectory ahead of future international competitions.

The remaining items on the meeting’s agenda will be discussed during a second Executive Committee session scheduled for Friday.
