Rabat – Beşiktaş confirmed that talks with former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah ended without an agreement despite holding three meetings with the player.
The 34-year-old was on the lookout for a new club and prioritised a move to Turkey, even with interest from other sides.
Beşiktaş football director Onder Özen claimed that everything was very smooth and perfect until they mentioned the financial side.
The Turkish director confirmed that the club will not offer a new deal.“The fluency in the early days slowed down starting from July 21,” said Onder. “Our president knows where to draw a line; he made a realistic decision and has stepped away from the table for now.”
The possibility of a move for the Egyptian forward has not entirely collapsed. Özen explained: “The proposal is still available. We can review it if they respond, but we won’t table a new one. They informed us of discussions with other clubs and that they may secure a deal elsewhere. Our offer to Salah represents the final position.”
During his time at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah scored 257 goals and provided 120 assists in 442 appearances, a record that highlights the quality he could have offered Beşiktaş.
After nine years at Liverpool, Salah left at the end of last season. His deal was due to expire in 2027, but a mutual termination means the Egyptian is now a free agent.
Beşiktaş were not Salah’s sole option, as Saudi Arabian sides registered significant interest in the Egypt international.
