Morocco, Bahrain Discuss Regional Security and Strait of Hormuz Navigation

Morocco and Bahrain

Agadir – Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, discussed regional developments and efforts to strengthen security and stability during a telephone call, Bahrain’s official news agency (QNA) reported.

The two ministers addressed international efforts to maintain regional security and stability, with particular attention to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

They also discussed coordination on current regional challenges and ways to advance Arab cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of Arab states.

The call comes amid continued diplomatic coordination between Rabat and Manama on regional and international issues.

The two ministers had also held talks in Amman weeks earlier on the sidelines of meetings bringing together Arab foreign ministers in the Jordanian capital. Their discussions focused on preserving regional security and stability and strengthening coordination among Arab countries in response to ongoing challenges.

The meeting was part of broader efforts by Morocco and Bahrain to deepen their longstanding bilateral partnership.

In February, the two countries held the sixth session of the Morocco-Bahrain Joint High Commission in Laayoune, resulting in the signing of several agreements covering areas including customs cooperation, agriculture, food security, social protection, and visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports.

The session marked the first Morocco-Bahrain Joint High Commission meeting to be held with an Arab country in Morocco’s southern provinces.

Morocco and Bahrain have maintained close political coordination in recent years, regularly consulting on regional and international matters and Arab affairs.

Earlier this year, officials from both countries also stressed the importance of strengthening economic ties to reflect the level of their political partnership.

Bourita’s latest phone call with Al Zayani comes as Arab countries continue diplomatic efforts to address regional security challenges and safeguard maritime navigation.
