Nayef Aguerd to Undergo Real Sociedad Medical Ahead of La Liga Return

Rabat – Morocco international Nayef Aguerd is expected to undergo his medical with Real Sociedad today, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, as the Spanish side closes in on bringing the defender back to La Liga.

The report says Aguerd’s move is progressing after Olympique de Marseille and Real Sociedad reached an agreement in principle over a loan deal with an option to buy, with the Moroccan now on the verge of completing the next step in the transfer.

The 30-year-old only joined Marseille from West Ham United last summer in a deal reportedly worth €23 million, but the Ligue 1 club is understood to be reshaping its squad and reducing its wage bill following a busy transfer window.

A return to San Sebastián would reunite Aguerd with a club where he impressed during the 2025-26 season, spending the campaign on loan and establishing himself as one of Real Sociedad’s key defensive figures.

The Spanish side has reportedly been eager to bring him back after securing the player’s initial approval, with negotiations gathering pace in recent days.

Aguerd had also attracted interest from Qatari side Al Sadd, which had previously been linked with a loan move including an automatic purchase clause. However, no deal materialized, leaving Real Sociedad in pole position.

The move also comes after the Moroccan defender returned to full fitness following the groin injury that ruled him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, allowing him to resume training ahead of the new campaign.

Neither Marseille nor Real Sociedad has officially commented on the reported transfer, but Foot Mercato reports that Aguerd’s medical is scheduled for today, bringing his departure from the French club a step closer.
