Agadir – Spain’s government is set to approve a €165 million (MAD 1.78 billion) emergency aid package for Ceuta this Tuesday as authorities seek to strengthen public services following the recent migration crossings to the Spanish-occupied enclave.

The package will be approved during the Council of Ministers meeting and will come in addition to a €180 million (MAD 1.94 billion) medium-term recovery plan previously announced by First Deputy Prime Minister Carlos Cuerpo.

According to Spanish media reports, the emergency measures are designed to revitalize Ceuta’s local economy while reinforcing key public services.

The government plans to invest €80 million (MAD 864 million) directly into Ceuta’s economy over the next four months.

Of this amount, €35 million (MAD 378 million) will go toward direct financial assistance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed workers. Another €15 million (MAD 162 million) will be allocated to measures aimed at supporting commerce and tourism in the city.

The government will also approve €15 million to reinforce education, healthcare, and justice services in Ceuta.

Last Thursday, the Spanish government agreed at the Sectoral Conference on Childhood and Adolescence to provide €25 million (MAD 270 million) in credit to support the care of migrant children in Ceuta.

The additional funding is intended to help authorities manage child protection and reception services, particularly following a protest by Ceuta residents targeting migrants, during which some migrants’ belongings were set on fire.

The incident added further pressure on Spanish authorities to manage the ongoing crisis, as Spanish intelligence has ruled out Morocco’s involvement in the mass crossings. At the same time, Morocco has consistently expressed its willingness to facilitate the return of its nationals.
