Rabat– Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, has granted an exceptional promotion to a police officer seriously injured after a driver deliberately ran him over several times in Agadir.
Hammouchi announced the decision on Thursday, October 29, promoting the officer from chief police brigadier to security officer in recognition of his professionalism, sacrifice, and selflessness while performing his duties.
The officer serves with the motorcycle patrol unit of the Agadir Police Prefecture.
According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the officer sustained serious injuries after attempting to stop a driver who refused to comply with police orders and breached a checkpoint at the northern entrance to Agadir.
The driver deliberately ran over the officer several times during the incident.
The attack occurred on Mohammed V Avenue, where a motorcycle patrol intercepted the vehicle after the driver had refused to stop at the checkpoint.
A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing the car hitting the officer and running over him before fleeing in reverse.
Police later arrested the driver and two passengers, who were reportedly intoxicated. The injured officer was transported to the university hospital for treatment.
The three suspects were placed in police custody as part of an investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor. They face charges including driving under the influence of alcohol, refusing to comply with police orders, assaulting an officer on duty, and complicity.
The exceptional promotion was granted under Article 29 of the special statute governing National Security personnel.
The DGSN said the decision reflects the state’s protection of police officers who suffer injuries or face risks while carrying out their duties to safeguard national security and citizens.
In addition to the promotion, Hammouchi instructed the National Security’s medical and social services to provide the injured officer with all necessary material and moral support and cover the costs of his hospital treatment.
The DGSN said the measures recognize the sacrifices and dedication of security personnel in serving the country and protecting citizens.
