Rabat – The legal case involving Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi is expected to be discussed within the Morocco national team camp following the latest developments in the case involving the Paris Saint-Germain defender.
According to Qatari sports outlet WinWin, Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa and Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi are expected to meet Hakimi this evening during the national team’s current camp.
The meeting will reportedly focus on the latest developments in the legal proceedings and their potential impact on the 27-year-old defender.
Lekjaa and Ouahbi are also expected to offer their support to Hakimi and discuss ways to help him navigate the situation while maintaining his focus on his sporting commitments with Morocco.
Presumption of innocence
The meeting comes after France’s Court of Cassation rejected Hakimi’s appeal against his referral to trial.
The decision means that the case will move forward to trial in France. It does not constitute a conviction, and Hakimi remains presumed innocent unless and until a court finds him guilty.
Hakimi has denied the allegations against him since the beginning of the case. His legal team has also maintained that the player cooperated with French authorities throughout the investigation and that his defense will be presented during the trial.
The reported meeting between Hakimi, Lekjaa, and Ouahbi is therefore expected to provide the player with support while allowing the national team to address the possible impact of the proceedings on his concentration.
