Rabat – Moroccan winger Gessime Yassine has emerged as Ligue 1’s leading dribbler after five rounds of the 2026-27 season, continuing his impressive start with Strasbourg.
According to data from Squawka, the 20-year-old has completed 18 take-ons in five league appearances, putting him comfortably ahead of his closest competitors.
French newspaper Le Progrès reported that Yassine holds an eight-dribble advantage over Paris Saint-Germain’s Désiré Doué and Auxerre’s Lamine Sy, who are tied behind him with 10 each.
His ability to beat opponents has been a feature of Strasbourg’s attack since the start of the campaign. Yassine had already established himself as Ligue 1’s leading dribbler after only two rounds, when the league’s official website credited him with eight successful take-ons from 14 attempts.
Yassine making impact across several categories
The Morocco international’s influence extends beyond dribbling.
Yassine has been fouled 15 times, the second-highest total in Ligue 1, while he has created five big chances, placing him fourth in that category after five rounds, according to figures cited by Le Progrès.
He has also recovered possession 30 times, ranking 10th in the league, and has won 45 duels. That duel total puts him among Ligue 1’s leading players, with separate league statistics also recording 45 successful duels from his opening five matches.
Yassine has contributed directly in front of goal as well, recording two goals and one assist through his first five league appearances. His two goals came in Strasbourg’s 2-1 victory over Lens in August, when he scored his first professional brace.
Harit also among leading dribblers
Yassine is not the only Moroccan featuring prominently in the early-season dribbling numbers.
Marseille midfielder Amine Harit also appears among the leading players in the Squawka ranking, with El Botola reporting him eighth with eight successful dribbles.
Other statistical providers similarly place Harit among Ligue 1’s more effective dribblers during the opening weeks. FotMob records a strong success rate for the Morocco international, while his early-season performances have also produced one assist for Marseille.
The numbers add another encouraging element to Yassine’s rapid rise following his move into a regular starting role at Strasbourg and his emergence with the Moroccan national team.
