Rabat – Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has officially joined Getafe on a contract running until June 30, 2027, the La Liga club announced on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old arrives as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract.
“Getafe CF have reached an agreement with Dani Carvajal, who joins the club until June 30, 2027,” the club said in its announcement, adding that the veteran defender will bring “experience and leadership” to José Bordalás’ squad.
Getafe welcomed their new signing with a message reading: “Welcome to the Coliseum, Dani!”
Carvajal stays in Madrid
Carvajal had been without a club since leaving Real Madrid in June but opted to remain in the Spanish capital rather than move abroad.
According to AS, the full-back accepted a significant reduction in salary to complete the move, with Getafe president Ángel Torres providing a financial guarantee that helped the club resolve difficulties related to La Liga’s squad-cost rules.
Bordalás also played an important role in the deal, with the Getafe coach keen to add Carvajal’s experience to a squad competing across several competitions this season.
The defender can operate in his traditional right-back position and also offers an option on the right side of a three-man defense.
Carvajal’s arrival gives Getafe one of the most decorated Spanish players of his generation.
He made 451 appearances for Real Madrid and won 27 trophies with the club, including six Champions League titles. Only a handful of players in the competition’s history have matched that European Cup tally.
Carvajal also has 51 appearances for Spain and was part of the teams that won the 2023 UEFA Nations League and Euro 2024.
His career outside Real Madrid previously consisted of one season at Bayer Leverkusen in 2012-13 before Madrid activated their buy-back option and brought him back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
