Rabat  – April  21 is officially the first day of Eid Al Fitr celebrations in Tunisia, according to the Tunisian Ministry for Religious Affairs.

The country’s Mufti said the crescent moon of Shawwal was visible tonight, and therefore Friday is the beginning of Shawwal.

Eid Al Fitr coincides with the first day of the Shawwal, the tenth month on the Islamic calendar that marks the end of Ramadan.

Muslims start Eid celebrations by performing a special communal morning prayer called “Salat Al Eid” in large congregations.

The prayers are often held in large halls or outside given the large number of people flocking to mosques.

Eid Al Fitr celebrations also include other activities, such as family and friends gathering to share meals together —particularly the first morning breakfast since the start of Ramadan.

Charity activities are also part of the rituals. Muslims are obliged to pay “Zakat Al Eid” or “Zakat Al Fitr,” a charity that should be given to people in need prior to Eid.

In addition to Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar are also set to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on xx.

Others like Morocco announced Saturday as Eid Al Fitr.
