Rabat – Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has responded to controversial remarks by LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who compared the club’s media strategy to propaganda methods used by Nazi Germany.
Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, October 17, ahead of Real Madrid’s LaLiga clash against Sevilla, Mourinho condemned the comparison and suggested that Tebas had crossed an unacceptable line.
“There are limits, and a line has been crossed that only has excuses if it’s a clinical case. If it’s not, there’s no justification or excuse,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese coach declined to discuss the controversy further, arguing that the situation should not be allowed to damage Spanish football’s international reputation.
“I think madridismo increasingly understands what it’s up against,” Mourinho added.
He also suggested that keeping the dispute within Spain would be preferable given the reputation Spanish football enjoys abroad.
Real Madrid demands Tebas’ resignation
Mourinho’s comments come a day after Real Madrid issued an official statement demanding Tebas’ immediate resignation as president of LaLiga and vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The dispute began when Tebas compared the communication methods of Real Madrid’s leadership and its television channel to propaganda techniques employed by Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister.
Tebas accused Real Madrid TV of repeatedly presenting controversial incidents to portray the club as a victim while allegedly omitting important context.
He later clarified that his comparison concerned propaganda methods rather than Nazi ideology or the club’s supporters.
Real Madrid rejected the explanation, describing the remarks as “absolutely intolerable” and “extraordinarily serious.”
The Spanish giants accused Tebas of repeatedly attacking the club, its president and its media outlets, arguing that his conduct demonstrated a lack of neutrality and impartiality incompatible with his institutional responsibilities.
The club also renewed its demands for transparency regarding the Negreira case, which concerns payments made by Barcelona to companies linked to a former senior Spanish refereeing official.
