Marrakech – French automotive technology group OPmobility inaugurated its fourth manufacturing plant in Morocco on Monday, expanding its presence in Kenitra with a facility that will produce exterior vehicle body parts.

The new plant is expected to create more than 100 jobs and bring the company’s Moroccan workforce to over 1,400, according to an official company announcement.

The facility sits in the Atlantic Free Zone, one of Morocco’s main automotive clusters, close to the company’s existing Kenitra plant established in 2018. It relies on highly automated manufacturing, handling, and storage technologies, and will supply a major international automaker. The additional positions raise OPmobility’s Kenitra headcount to 510.

OPmobility links the project to rising customer demand. The plant is expected to generate work in manufacturing, maintenance, logistics, and quality control, while drawing on direct access to customers, suppliers, and logistics providers to streamline supply chain flows.

The company has not disclosed the value of the investment, the plant’s production capacity, or the identity of the international customer it will serve. Those details remain absent from the Monday release.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Laurent Burelle, chairman of OPmobility’s board of directors, and Félicie Burelle, the group’s chief executive officer.

Burelle credited the company’s Moroccan operations with building “strong industrial expertise” and “highly qualified and committed local teams.”

She described the plants in Tangier and Kenitra as a “complementary manufacturing footprint” serving “customer programs for local and international markets,” tying the expansion to a diversification strategy across geographies, customers, and technologies.

OPmobility has operated in Morocco since 2013 and now runs four plants, two in Kenitra and two in Tangier. Across those sites, the group offers expertise in energy storage systems, lighting systems, and exterior body parts, serving several major automotive manufacturers.

Tangier also functions as one of its three regional engineering hubs, alongside Troy in the United States and Pune in India.

The company’s Moroccan footprint grew in stages. Its Kenitra expansion began with a plant established in 2018, which started operating in July 2019 to supply the then-PSA Group.

In 2022, the group moved into lighting through its acquisition of Varroc Lighting Systems and Automotive Lighting Systems (AMLS), a deal that brought in a Tangier facility dating to 2018.

The parent company, formerly Plastic Omnium, adopted the OPmobility name in March 2024 as part of a broader strategic shift.

Earlier figures point to the scale of that growth. A company presentation dated October 3, 2023 reported three Moroccan plants employing 1,172 people, with annual Moroccan sales projected to exceed €200 million that year and roughly 80% of those sales serving the local market. The same document identified Renault, Stellantis, and Volkswagen as customers.

Those numbers, however, predate the latest expansion and reflect the company’s position at the time.

Founded in France in 1946 and listed on Euronext Paris, OPmobility reported economic revenue of €11.5 billion in 2025. The group operates 152 factories and 40 research and development centers across 28 countries, with a global workforce of 38,100.

Its portfolio spans exterior and lighting systems, complex modules, energy storage, battery and hydrogen electrification, and software.
