Marrakech – Moroccan pharmaceutical group Laprophan has signed a contract to acquire 100% of the capital of Corporate Investment Holding (CIH), the parent company of the Polymedic laboratory. The group announced the deal on Wednesday and filed a notification with the Competition Council.

The operation remains subject to regulatory authorizations, and its completion depends in particular on the prior approval of the Competition Council. No amount was disclosed, and the group communicated no timeline for closing.

The planned purchase would extend a run of acquisitions that Laprophan has pursued at home and abroad. The strategy began in 2020 and accelerated in recent years. In 2024, the group acquired 100% of Amanys Pharma, a major player in the hospital segment and in beta-lactamines, along with 75% of Botanic Pharma, which specializes in dietary supplements. In 2026, it took a 60% stake in the Swiss multinational Rivopharm.

The Rivopharm deal marked Laprophan’s first European acquisition. Rivopharm works mainly in central nervous system and cardiovascular treatments. The purchase added an industrial site in Manno, Switzerland, certified by Swissmedic, EU-GMP, and the US-FDA, as well as subsidiaries in Germany, England, and Lithuania. Rivopharm markets its medicines directly and indirectly in close to 30 countries.

Those operations have turned Laprophan into an international pharmaceutical player. The group now sells its medicines directly and indirectly in more than 50 countries, eight of which host operational facilities. It holds more than 1,300 marketing authorizations (AMMs) across 15 therapeutic areas and employs nearly 1,450 people.

Laprophan runs four production sites in Morocco and Switzerland. Its manufacturing infrastructure covers roughly 76,500 m² of built area, with a consolidated capacity above 180 million consumer sales units a year.

Polymedic would bring a long track record of its own. Founded in 1964, the laboratory is an established player in Morocco’s pharmaceutical industry. It develops, manufactures, and markets medicines and licensed specialties, and employs close to 280 people. Its industrial site in Casablanca spans 9,600 m², and it relies on its subsidiary Promaceutique for medical promotion.

The laboratory manages 138 marketing authorizations and sells more than 200 products across 12 therapeutic areas. It holds positions in dermatology, central nervous system, and cardiovascular treatments, as well as in pneumology and rheumatology. It also maintains industrial and commercial partnerships with international pharmaceutical groups.

For Laprophan, the project targets complementarity and the maximization of synergies between the two structures. The group wants to align product portfolios, services, distribution channels, and industrial capacity. It also intends to strengthen its industrial and logistics capabilities and to develop new medicines.

Polymedic would contribute its positions in several therapeutic specialties. The combination of the two laboratories’ activities would, in turn, reinforce local production capacity.

Laprophan framed the Polymedic project as a continuation of the approach it applied to its earlier purchases. The group pointed to the same priorities of portfolio complementarity, industrial reinforcement, and product development.

The group confirmed that the transaction cannot close without the required regulatory clearances. The Competition Council’s decision remains the key step before the acquisition can move forward.
