Rabat — Moroccan pharmaceutical group Laprophan has completed the acquisition of Swiss drugmaker Rivopharm, marking its first acquisition in Europe and expanding its footprint across the continent.

The deal was carried out through Europhan, Laprophan’s European platform based in Luxembourg. The Moroccan group said the acquisition will help accelerate its international growth strategy and strengthen its position across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and other global markets.

Rivopharm specializes in specialty medicines, dossier development, complex formulations, and value-added pharmaceutical solutions. The company also operates its own industrial site and generates annual revenue of around $100 million.

With the acquisition, Laprophan adds a network of European operations to its portfolio. Alongside Rivopharm’s Swiss industrial and development base, the group gains access to subsidiaries including Rivopharm UK, Holsten Pharma in Germany, and Sanoswiss in Lithuania.

Laprophan said the expanded platform will strengthen its direct presence in Europe while building on a portfolio that is already marketed in more than 30 countries worldwide.

The Moroccan group currently maintains international offices in India, the UAE, and Côte d’Ivoire. Founded more than 75 years ago, Laprophan has a portfolio of over 500 products covering 14 therapeutic areas and an annual revenue exceeding $250 million.

According to the company, the merger brings together two businesses with complementary geographic reach, industrial capabilities, and commercial, regulatory, and operational expertise. Laprophan said the transaction will strengthen its pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, and marketing activities, including through out-licensing partnerships with some of the world’s largest generic drugmakers.

At the same time, the company said Rivopharm will gain additional resources to support its international expansion plans.

Integration work between the two companies is already underway. Laprophan said the initial phase is progressing according to plan and has reinforced management’s confidence in the strategic, operational, and cultural fit between the organizations.

Farid Bennis, President of Laprophan Group, described the acquisition as a key moment in the company’s history. He said the deal opens a new chapter in Laprophan’s ambition to build an international pharmaceutical group from Morocco, backed by industrial capabilities, scientific expertise, and a long-term commitment to improving access to quality medicines.

Rivopharm Managing Director Piero Poli said the partnership would help accelerate the Swiss company’s international expansion, create new opportunities for its products and partners, and support the development of a pharmaceutical group with a broader global reach.
