Rabat– Laayoune hosted the signing of two memorandums of understanding between the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune (FMPL), part of Ibn Zohr University, and two US institutions on Thursday, with a focus on medical training, scientific research, and improving patient care.

The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the second edition of the Moroccan-American Medical Days, which brings together doctors, professors, and researchers from Morocco and the United States to discuss medical advances and ways to improve healthcare practices.

The first memorandum was signed with Celenova Fertility, represented by its medical director, Susan Nassab. The second was concluded with the Fetal Research Fund, represented by Professor Boris Petrikovsky.

In a statement to MAP, Nassab said the agreement with Ibn Zohr University covers three main areas of cooperation: training and supervising doctors and students, developing scientific research, and improving patient care.

The partnership will include the exchange of medical protocols and therapeutic strategies, as well as efforts to strengthen the skills of doctors, students, and medical residents, she added.

Nassab, an American specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology, also highlighted the importance of fertility preservation, particularly for cancer patients, alongside treatments and procedures related to reproductive medicine.

Meanwhile, Petrikovsky, an American obstetrician and gynecologist, said the memorandum between FMPL and the Fetal Research Fund, an international nonprofit research organization, would open new opportunities for joint research projects between Morocco and the United States.

FMPL Dean Fatima Zahra Alaoui said the agreements with recognized American institutions would allow the faculty to benefit from specialized expertise, particularly in fetal and neonatal health.

She added that the partnerships would contribute to advancing scientific research both within the faculty and across Morocco.

The signing of the two memorandums forms part of broader medical and academic cooperation promoted through the second edition of the Moroccan-American Medical Days.

The event is taking place in Laayoune through October 30, bringing together medical professionals, academics, and researchers from both countries to exchange knowledge on medical developments and improving healthcare practices.
