Casablanca – Residents of Plasencia gathered yesterday to pay tribute to Imad, the 22-year-old Moroccan man who died after a stabbing in the city, as his family continued to demand justice.
The gathering took place in Plaza Mayor, where attendees called for an end to violence and racism, according to Spanish regional newspaper El Periódico Extremadura.
The demonstration came four days after Imad died in hospital from injuries he sustained in the attack in central Plasencia during the early hours of October 30.
His family has called for the circumstances surrounding his death to be fully investigated. Relatives have alleged that the attack had a racist motive and want investigators to examine that possibility. Authorities have not publicly established a motive.
During the gathering, residents expressed solidarity with Imad’s relatives and called for justice without allowing the killing to fuel hatred. Some attendees carried a message of “Neither hatred nor revenge,” calling for justice without revenge. Another report described the memorial as an emotional tribute that condemned violence and racism.
Imad died after receiving two stab wounds during an altercation on October 30, at the intersection of Talavera and Encarnación streets in Plasencia. Police officers and emergency services responded to the scene and took him to Virgen del Puerto Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death, according to elDiario.es.
Spanish authorities arrested two men in connection with the case. The main suspect, a 19-year-old local resident, faces a homicide investigation and remains in provisional detention without bail, following a court decision reported on November 3.
A second suspect, aged 26, appeared before the court on suspicion of helping the main suspect flee and attempting to conceal drugs. The court released him under judicial supervision, requiring him to report twice a month, on the first and 15th days.
Police also opened a separate investigation into a suspected public health offense involving both men. During a search of the property, officers seized 16 kilograms of hashish, two kilograms of marijuana, five grams of cocaine, 17 bladed weapons, two imitation firearms and a vehicle.
Investigators also recovered a machete along the suspected escape route. Police believe the weapon may have been used in the fatal attack, although the investigation remains ongoing.
