Rabat – The Washington Post has featured Tangier’s tourist attractions, particularly its renowned cafe culture, which has attracted many writers and artists from all over the world to places like Cafe Hafa, Gran Cafe de Paris, Cafe Tingis, and Cafe Baba.

In an article published today, the newspaper noted that no other Moroccan city can quite compare to Tangier’s “historic cafe culture,” which was frequented by expat writers and artists such as American writer and composer Paul Bowles and Moroccan author Mohamed Choukri, among other literary figures.

The newspaper cited several places to visit in the northern Moroccan city including Cafe Hafa, one of the oldest cafes in the heart of the city, dating back to 1921.

The newspaper also mentioned the famous Gran Cafe de Paris which recently featured on Telegraph’s  list of “the 50 greatest cafes on earth.”

In addition to cafes, Tangier’s Cinema Rif is also a popular tourist destination. The art-house movie theater features a cafe, and a terrace overlooking the Grand Socco.

This is not the first time that the Washington Post highlights Morocco’s various tourism assets. Earlier this year, the newspaper featured Morocco as one of the world’s top travel destinations for the year 2023.

Additionally, the northern coastal city featured in Travel + Leisure’s list of top 50 places to visit in 2023.

Meanwhile, the New York Times put Essaouira’s tourism assets under the spotlight, particularly its art galleries, guesthouses and “blossoming design scene,” which has attracted many productions, including HBO’s epic series Game of Thrones.

Morocco has maintained its popularity as one of the world’s top tourist destinations. At the end of February 2023, Morocco recorded 1.9 million tourist arrivals showing a 464% increase compared to the same period in 2022
