Rabat – Ramadan 2023 is expected to start on Thursday, March 23 in the UK, astronomy calculations announced.

The crescent moon sighting will determine the exact date of Ramadan on the evening of Wednesday, March 22.

“The new moon is expected to be visible in the UK on the evening of Wednesday 22 March. It means Ramadan expected starting date in UK is Thursday, 23 March 2023,” according to news outlet Hamari Web.

The source also predicted the end of Ramadan 2023, known as Eid Al Fitr. Hamari Web expects Eid to take place on April 22.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. The holy month is when Muslims across the world fast from dawn to sunset abstaining from food and drink.

Estimations forecast that there are over 1.8 billion Muslims across the world.

According to the Office for National Statistics, over 3.9 million people are adherents of Islam in the UK.

Statistics from last year also show that the Muslim population in the UK increased by 44% (1.2 million)  in a decade.

One of the latest censuses said that 39% of Muslims are living in the “most deprived” areas of England and Wales.

Muslims make up around 6.5% of the population in England.

In addition to the UK, many other countries are expected to start fasting on March 23, including the US, Canada, and Morocco.

The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) announced that countries across North America are set to celebrate the first day of the holy month on March 23.

Astronomers are also predicting the first day of Ramadan to fall on March 23 in Morocco.
