Rabat – King Mohammed VI has contracted the flu, a statement from the Royal household, protocol, and Chancellery announced on Wednesday.

The statement said that the King’s personal doctor recommended that the monarch “observes a period of rest and to avoid traveling for a few days.”

The statement came hours after news emerged about the King’s visit to Senegal.

Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita landed in Senegal on Tuesday to accompany the King during his planned visit to Dakar.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcomed this evening my friend and brother, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, Nasser Bourita, who came to accompany His Majesty King Mohammed VI on an official visit to Senegal starting tomorrow,” Senegal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Aissata Tall Sall wrote on Tuesday.

The official also emphasized that the monarch and Bourita’s visit reflect the depth of diplomatic ties and friendship between the two countries.

In addition to Senegal, King Mohammed VI also visited Gabon last week, where the monarch announced a donation of  2,000 tonnes of fertilizer to the central African country.

During the visit, King Mohammed VI also met with Gabon’s President Ali Bongo Ondmba to discuss the important bilateral ties and “solidly rooted” relations between the two countries.
