Rabat – The Green & Smart Building Park, a collaboration between several research institutions and actors in the green energy sector, will open on Friday, February 24 in Ben Guerir.

The project is dedicated to experimentation, training, and research to develop the fields of green buildings, energy efficiency, and smart grids in Morocco, a press release stated.

Green buildings aim to maintain an environmentally friendly approach throughout their lifecycle, from the sites where they are located, to their construction, operation, and maintenance.

“The GSBP aims to create the ecosystem required in the development of the sustainable Moroccan and African city,” the press release said, adding that the project aims to achieve its goals through the use of renewable energy and digitization in buildings.

In addition to providing funding for projects, the platform will also work to facilitate cooperation between different actors and institutions in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the green tech sector, the press release detailed.

It also added that the Green Energy Park (GEP), the Institute of Research and Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have collaborated to build a center dedicated to green buildings, smart grids, and sustainable mobility.

The center will focus on research and development in those fields, strengthening the project’s ambitions to work with research centers, universities, and SMEs.

In addition to research centers and universities, the project also lists several government institutions from Morocco as expected participants.

Morocco’s ministries of energy transition, higher education and scientific research, and trade were all listed among the participants.

The project is the latest in a string of collaborations between Morocco and other international actors in the green sector.

Building on efforts to make the country more attractive to investors who are interested in the field, Morocco has recently attracted several projects in green energy and green buildings.

The country has been cited as a regional and international leader in the field by various reports, validating Morocco’s growing capacities for solar, wind, and green hydrogen as energy production methods.
