Rabat – French professional football club Angers SCO has honored Moroccan football players Azzedine Ounahi and Soufiane Boufal for their outstanding performance alongside the Moroccan national football team in the Qatar World Cup.

Angers SCO’s president Said Chabane gave the two Atlas Lions a warm welcome and awarded them with a trophy each to congratulate them on Morocco’s fairytale journey in Qatar.

“The two Moroccan internationals Azzedine Ounahi and Soufiane Boufal received a trophy to congratulate them on their very good journey during the FIFA World Cup  2022. Congratulations again boys,” said the European club on Twitter.

The Moroccan national team has made history during the global tournament and achieved the unexpected, becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach the World Cup’s semi-finals.

The Moroccan squad defied all odds and predictions that suggested that the team would not make it past the World Cup’s group stage. The team managed to defeat and send home some of the world’s football giants, including Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.

Morocco’s World Cup heroics were, and still are, widely celebrated among football fans from across the world.

In addition, the Atlas Lions’ spectacular performance has caught the attention of several elite European clubs, who have put several Moroccan players on their radar, including Ounahi.

The 22-year-old midfielder has become one of the most sought-after football players in Europe, with British club Leicester City leading the race to secure Ounahi’s services.

Spain’s Sevilla FC and Germany’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen also announced their interest in signing the Moroccan young star.

Following his eye-catching performance at the World Cup, Ounahi’s market value has remarkably increased from €3.5 million in early November to  €15 million after the sporting event.

In addition to Ounahi, Moroccan Atlas Lions Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nseyri, and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou have emerged as some of Morocco’s key players in the World Cup, catching the attention of several European clubs.
