Rabat – Morocco’s World Cup team’s performance this year keeps Africa’s hope for a FIFA World Cup victory “alive,” American news outlet Seattle Times wrote on Friday.

Based on converging statements from football fans across the continent, the Seattle Times concluded that “hopes of the continent soaring ahead of the match on Saturday against Portugal.”

Fans are especially delighted with the prospect of another African team that made it to the short list of African countries that reached the World Cup quarterfinals, the report explained.

Morocco’s outstanding performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup is sending a clear message to fans across the continent that African teams can indeed win the football tournament, the report quoted South Sudan Football Association president Augustino Maduot Parekas saying.

Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, is another source of pride and inspiration to the continent as he is Moroccan, proving that Africa does not need European expertise to assert itself in world football. Regragui made history this year by becoming the first African coach to lead his team to the World Cup quarterfinals.
