Rabat – Spain’s Valencia port is studying the expansion of its connection routes with northern Morocco.
In a statement today, the Spanish port’s authorities announced that they are elaborating an expansion strategy for Road and Sea Transport (ro-ro) and Refrigerated Shipping Containers (reefer) traffic with northern Morocco.
The head of Commercial and Clients of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Cristina Rodríguez, participated in the IX Spanish-Moroccan Business Meeting of the Maritime, Transport, and Logistics Sector held in Tangier this week. The event was organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism.
During the event, the Valenciaport delegation, headed by Rodriguez, held a series of meetings with Moroccan shippers and logistics operators to boost maritime traffic between the PAV and the North African country.
Speaking on the backdrop of announcing the plan to connect the PAV to northern Morocco, Rodriguez said that the Spanish port “wants to promote short sea shipping lines, especially ro-ro traffic between the two areas, as well as the movement of reefer goods, a very dynamic sector in recent years that Valencia port and its port community have strengthened through investment in infrastructure and new services.”
The Spanish official explained that the port is promoting its connections with the whole of northern Morocco with an “intense agenda” of meetings with Spanish and Moroccan exporters.
Over the first 10 months of 2022, nearly 100,000 containers have been moved between Moroccan ports and the Spanish port. The volume of goods trafficked totaled more than 1.7 tonnes, according to PAV data.
