Rabat – Switzerland’s national team today won 1-0 in their game against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah, Qatar.
The game marked Group G’s opening game at the 2022 World Cup’s group stage, with both teams hoping to display a strong performance to advance to the round of 16.
The first half of the match ended without a goal from either team, but Switzerland’s Cameroon-born Breel Embolo scored his squad’s first goal at the 48th minute, in a bitter-sweet win. Embolo refused to celebrate his goal against his country of origin.
Cameroons’ defeat in front of the game favorites came as no surprise, as predictions were in favor of Switzerland to win the game.
Despite today’s loss, the African squad has displayed a great performance and the ball possession was more or less balanced between the two teams.
The 2022 World Cup marks Switzerland’s 12th appearance in the global event, while it features Cameroon’s eighth qualification.
Today marks Matchday 5 of the global tournament’s group stage, featuring four exciting clashes. Group H’s Uruguay and South Korea will face off at 14:00 Moroccan time, and Portugal and Ghana will play against each other at 17:00 Moroccan time.
Meanwhile, Serbia and Brazil from Group G will lock horns at 20:00 Moroccan time at the Lusail Stadium, located 20 kilometers north of Doha.
The tournament’s group stage has so far featured thrilling matchups, resulting in unprecedented results. Saudi Arabia on Tuesday clinched a shocking 2-0 win against football giant Argentina.
In addition, Japan’s national team won its game against pre-game favorites Germany 2-1 on Wednesday.
Football fans from across the world are looking forward to the many surprises that the Qatar World Cup will be unveiling.
