Rabat – Dutch police have reportedly arrested Dutch-Moroccan football player Mohamed Ihattaren.
A Dutch news outlet RTL Nieuws received confirmation from a spokesperson for the Central Netherlands police, who said that the 20-year-old football player was arrested for allegedly “making threats.”
The person who allegedly received threats from Ihattaren has not been identified by the Dutch media.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf said that uniformed police entered Ihattaren’s house and took him to a police station for questioning.
“It is unclear whether Ihattaren will have to remain in jail during the investigation.” the Dutch news outlet stated.
Ihattaren plays for Italian club Juventus. In August 2021, Juventus announced the signing of a four-year contract with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for Moroccan-Dutch football player Mohamed Amine Ihattaren.
In November 2019, the football player chose to represent the Netherlands over Morocco after months of speculation.
Responding to heavy criticism against his choice, Ihattaren said: “I played for the Netherlands for the under14s [team] and I won the European Championship with the Under-17s team with the Oranje. It’s good that I can continue,” Ihattaren said to justify his decision.
