Rabat – The US State Department Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs has confirmed the swearing-in of the newly appointed US Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar.
The Bureau congratulated Talwar in a tweet shared on Friday, wishing the newly-sworn-in ambassador and his team “the best at US Embassy in Morocco and in furthering and strengthening the U.S.-Morocco partnership.”
On March 18, US President Joe Biden nominated Puneet Talwar for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Morocco. The role entails facilitating cooperation between Washington DC and Rabat, as well as representing the US and President Biden in Morocco.
The US State Department confirmed the appointment of the diplomat on September 9.
The “experienced policy professional,” according to the US State Department, “has held senior national security and foreign policy positions in the State Department, White House, and the United States Senate.”
The seasoned diplomat has worked with Biden since the nineties. He notably served as the Chief Advisor to then-Senator Biden between 1995 and 1999 before rejoining the Biden team in the US Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2008 as Chief Advisor on the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

Talwar’s work with Biden resumed on April 9, 2014, when he was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs under the presidency of Barack Obama and the vice-presidency of Joe Biden. He served in the position for over a year until November 2015.
Five years later, Talwar was named a volunteer member of the Joe Biden presidential transition agency review team. He was tasked to support the post-election staff at the US State department.
In addition to establishing a solid diplomatic career, Talwar has served in different positions outside the public sector.
He has notably held the positions of visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania Penn Biden Center, senior fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute, and counselor to the conflict resolution NGO Inter Mediate.
Additionally, the US diplomat has published numerous articles in well-established magazines such as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and The National Interest.
