Rabat – Morocco’s carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has informed passengers that its flights to and from Africa have been restored.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, RAM said: “We inform you that the air traffic controllers strike is suspended at African airports. Our flight schedule from/to Africa of today is restored.”
Announcing the resumption of flights after the end of a 48-hour strike by air traffic controllers in West and Central Africa, Royal Air Maroc asked its passengers to stay updated about their flights by providing their contact details through the “manage booking section” on its website.
On Friday, the Union of Air Traffic Controllers announced the strike to demand better working and pay conditions, causing air traffic disruptions across the region. Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at airports due to the decision.
Over 700 air traffic controllers joined the strike. But the union has now decided to suspend the strike for 10 days to allow for negotiations.
“Air traffic services will be provided in all air spaces and airports managed by ASENCA (the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar) from today Saturday, September 24, 2022,” the union said.
Thousands of passengers were stranded at several airports across the region, including at the Douala International airport in Cameron, according to Reuters.
Departures from Senegal’s main airport in Dakar also witnessed cancellations of flights operated by several airlines including Brussels Airlines, Emirates, as well as Kenyan Airways.
