Casablanca – The US Embassy in Morocco announced today the arrival of 51 Peace Corps volunteers, the largest number in any country in the world, resuming US Peace Corps service after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

With ages ranging from 21 to 60 years old, the return of this group of American volunteers commemorates the 59th anniversary of the Peace Corps’ service in Morocco, the embassy’s press release noted.

During their first eleven weeks in the Kingdom, the new volunteers will get intense language and culture training in the Beni-Mellal/Khenifra region.

The volunteers will have a trip to host towns and villages around the country to undertake volunteer work to promote peace and friendship.

Since 1963, Morocco has been a host country for Peace Corps volunteers, being one of the first countries to host the American volunteering organization.

Since it first hosted the initiative, Morocco has welcomed 5,052 volunteers.

Although Peace Corps volunteers serve all around the world, Morocco is one of the most “requested” volunteer service spots, the embassy’s statement highlighted.

In 2018, the North African country received more than 900 applications from Peace Corps volunteers.

The Peace Corps is a volunteer program that allows young people to engage in a community abroad and assists in providing social and economic assistance for communities abroad through training.
