17 Moroccan junior and senior athletes competed in the regional competition in the Egyptian capital Cairo between July 7 and 11. The tournament saw the participation of 95 gymnasts from eight African countries including Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon, Togo, South Africa, Senegal, and Zimbabwe.
Moroccan athlete Abderrazak Nasser won two medals in the African championship, as he secured a gold medal in the senior pommel horse game and a bronze medal in the MAG senior vault event. In March, Quistas participated in the FIG Apparatus World Cup 2022 in Cairo. Following the event, Quistas took to Instagram to share his excitement, saying, “After 3 years without competing due to Covid, I’m happy with my performance at the Cairo world cup -> 9th on vault. Very motivated for the future.”
With Quistas winning Morocco’s only silver medal in the African championship, the 16-year-old Moroccan athlete Taha Kabouri ranked third in the junior parallel bars game. Egyptian gymnasts Mostafa Waleed and Mohamed Dhusam came first and second in the same event.
The fourth Moroccan bronze medal went to the junior WAG team, which consists of Inas Laabouri, Chourouk El Annabi, and Rihab Sebti. The host country Egypt secured the gold medal in this category, followed by South Africa.
As the Cairo competition concluded on Monday, Abderazzak Nasser has shifted his focus to the 2022 World Artistics Gymnastics Championship, which is scheduled for October 29- November 6.
