Rabat – Morocco has received different parts and equipment for the vaccine manufacturing unit that is scheduled to be established in Benslimane, a province in the Casablanca region.
The equipment arrived at the Casablanca Port on Sunday from Shanghai, China and will enable the establishment of the biotechnological unit.
King Mohammed VI launched in January the construction works for the establishment of SENSYO PHARMATECH, a manufacturing plant COVID-19 and other vaccines, in the province of Benslimane in the Casablanca-Settat region.
The shipment includes 35,000 tonnes of equipment forming the complete parts needed to build a ready-to-operate factory.
The arrival of the shipment constitutes a “very important” step towards the realization of the project, said Funk, CEO of the industrial unit, adding that the factory will meet the needs of Morocco and the African continent in terms of COVID and other virus vaccines.
The unit aims to cover over 70% of Morocco’s needs and more than 60% of the continent’s demand.
With a projected budget of €200 million, Morocco aims to start the production of trial batches by July 30, 2022.
The unit, which comes as part of a public-private partnership project with the support of Swedish company Recipharm, will have three industrial lines, with a projected combined production capacity of 116 millions by 2023.
