Fes – Nearly a third of Moroccans want a career change in 2022, according to a survey conducted by Sunergia Group, a Casablanca-based marketing firm.

The study, titled “Do you plan to change your job in 2022?” was conducted between February and March, with the aim of shedding light on Moroccans who are reexamining their current careers.

32% of the total number of the interviewed respondents gave affirmative answers when asked if they were considering a career change.

With as many as 1092 people taking part in the interviews, the survey sought to target a diverse pool of the Moroccan working class.

Of the surveyed population, young Moroccans appeared to be much more interested in considering a career shift compared to their elderly counterparts.

44% of Moroccans aged between 18-24 years old are seriously considering a career change, while only 9% of Moroccans at the age of 64 years old or above are planning to do so, the survey concluded.

Meanwhile, amid a global economic crisis due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, employment rates have seen a gradual decline worldwide.

In Morocco, employment rates have witnessed a slight decrease in the first quarter of 2022, according to a recent report by the country’s High Commission for Planning (HCP).

The report shows that Morocco’s employment rate saw a 0.4% decline in the first quarter, compared to the same period of the previous year. Between the first quarters of 2021 and 2022, the number of unemployed Moroccans fell by 68,000, from 1,534,000 to 1,466,000. According to Morocco’s press agency (MAP), this decrease is approximately 52,000 in urban areas and 16,000 in rural areas.
