Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism has called on citizens selected for Hajj in this year’s draw to contact travel agencies in order to complete the necessary files and paperwork.

Pilgrims are encouraged to carefully examine their contract and compare the services offered by different agencies, to ensure their best interests and prevent any foul play, the ministry said.

Selected citizens are also required to make the necessary payments in a single payment to Barid Bank.

The list of travel agencies authorized by the ministry to organize Hajj can be consulted on the tourism ministry’s website.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced earlier this month that it would be allowing 1 million pilgrims to visit Mecca this year for the annual pilgrimage, after the last two years saw only a few thousand allowed for COVID-19 safety reasons.

Currently, 15,392 Moroccans will be participating in this year’s pilgrimage. The pilgrims are picked through a draw, while also taking into account the safety requirements Saudi Arabia has in place this year, such as setting a maximum age of 65.

Pilgrims will also be required to undergo a PCR test, 72 hours before traveling and present it to the relevant authorities.

Hajj, an annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, is one of the five pillars of Islam. Every Muslim is required to perform it once, assuming they are physically and economically capable.
