Astronomy projections point to a May 2 Eid for most countries, especially those that started Ramadan on April 2.

A full moon sighting will take place on April 30, after the moon enters its new phase.

While Eid Al Fitr is not an official holiday in Canada, many Muslim-owned businesses and offices close their doors on the day to celebrate.

Much like the rest of the world, Muslims in Canada wake up early on the day for Eid prayers, and then celebrate by wearing new clothes, giving to charity, and breaking their fast with feasts.

Mosques around the country also see bigger crowds, as people go to celebrate the occasion and socialize with their fellow Muslims.

Large crowds of people have also recently been gathering in Canadian public spaces in big cities such as Ottawa and Montreal to celebrate, and politicians have been celebrating the occasion as well in recent years.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, and is usually hard to predict due to the Muslim lunar Hijri calendar not lining up with the Gregorian calendar.
