Rabat – According to Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee, Saturday, April 2 marks the first day of Ramadan 2022 in the country.
The moon sighting committee announced that it sighted the Ramadan crescent moon on April 1, corresponding to Sha’ban 29.
Tarawih evening prayers in Saudi Arabia will begin today April 1.
Tarawih prayers begin on the evening of the first moon-sighting, which is the last day of Sha-ban, and finish on the evening of the second moon-sighting – the last day of Ramadan.
The position of the holy month of Ramadan in the calendar changes each year, falling about 10 days earlier each year.
This is because Muslims follow the lunar calendar, which depends on moon sightings, rather than the widely used Gregorian calendar
Most countries, especially those with a Muslim minority, follow Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting.
Saudi Arabia is considered Islam’s heartland. It is home to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam. It was the birthplace of Prophet Mohammad and the place where he had his first revelation of Islam.
In addition, millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for Hajj each year.
After imposing restrictions on worshipers due to COVID-19, Saudi Arabia has recently lifted various precautionary measures in all indoor and outdoor venues.
Verification of one’s vaccination status is no longer required to enter the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah also lifted social distancing measures in the two holy mosques, but face masks are still required.
Pilgrims also no longer require a negative COVID test to enter Saudi Arabia.
After the number of COVID-19 cases declined, Saudi Arabia also lifted a ban on flights to and from 17 countries.
