Rabat – Ramadan is expected to begin in Kuwait on Saturday April 2, according to Kuwaiti astronomer Adil Al-Marzouq.
Kuwaiti news outlets reported Al-Marzouq’s calculations for Eid Al-Fitr — the end of Ramadan — saying that the Shawwal moon will not be visible on May 1 because it will set 17 minutes before sunset.
Ramadan will be 30 days long and Eid Al-Fitr will fall on May 2 in Kuwait, he added.
The Kuwaiti astronomer also noted that the duration of the first fast day of Ramadan is expected to be 14 hours and 53 minutes in the Middle Eastern country.
The crescent of Ramadan 2022 will be searched for after sunset on Sha’ban 29, corresponding to April 1.
Kuwaiti Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced in March that the country is ready to welcome Ramadan, while taking into account precautionary measures to prevent any spread of COVID-19.
The ministry unveiled its Ramadan program and initiatives, such as delivering food baskets to families and workers in need, recalling that over 40,000 families benefited from the “Giving Basket campaign” last year.
The ministry aims to organize several Ramadan activities, among others, contests for children and adults along with lectures and seminars, as well as religious programs for the Kuwaiti community abroad.
On March 30, Kuwait announced that all mosques with women’s prayer areas will open during Ramadan.
Similar to Kuwait, astronomers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar have also forecast the beginning of Ramadan to be on April 2.
Meanwhile, Moroccan astronomers expect Ramadan to start on April 3. India and the Republic of Korea also forecast the holy month to start on April 3.
Morocco will sight the crescent moon on Friday.
