Rabat – A Spanish delegation, currently visiting the region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, explored on Tuesday, March 15, the various economic, natural, and cultural assets in the province of Tarfaya in southern Morocco.
The visit is initiated by the Sakia El Hamra Center for Studies and Research and the Murcia “Talh” Association.
The first stage of the visit focused on the Naila reserve and the monuments and historical sites of Tarfaya, including Port Victoria (Dar Al Bahr) and the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry museum.
Leading the delegation is Mohamed Biadillah, Morocco’s Consul Generalin Murcia, south-eastern Spain. The historian and professor at the University of Murcia, Antonio Vicente Fray Sánchez, the photographer and graphic designer Gonzalo Sánchez Álvarez Castellanos, and the Murcia Radio journalist Paulino Ross are all members of the delegation.
The delegation met with the governor of the province of Tarfaya, Mohamed Hamim. They discussed business and investment opportunities in the province of Tarfaya, especially in maritime fishing, tourism, as well as investments in wind and solar energy.

Tarfaya is home to Africa’s largest capacity wind farm with 131 wind turbines, each generating 2.5 Megawatts of power, and a total installed capacity of 301 MW. The wind farm cost MAD 5.49 billion ($559 million).
Emphasizing ongoing efforts to consolidate the Hispano-Moroccan partnership, the delegation stressed the need to scale up investments in various fields and promote bilateral cooperation at all levels.
Paulino Ross said he was “proud” to visit Morocco, in particular the southern provinces of the country. He also expressed the wish to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the social, cultural, and scientific research fields.
Gonzalo Sanchez Alvarez Castellanos emphasized that the visit is an opportunity to deepen Morocco-Spain friendship and cooperation in social and cultural fields, as well as to support all initiatives that serve the purpose of strengthening the understanding between the two friendly peoples.

The delegation is scheduled to visit historical monuments and rock carving sites in the region and hold meetings with local authorities and actors in the provinces of Laayoune, Tarfaya and Es-Smara.
A partnership agreement will be signed between the “Interaction” Association in Murcia, the Sakia El Hamra Center for Studies and Research in Laayoune and the “Mirane” Association for the Protection of Heritage in Es-Smara, to identify and conduct archaeological research on the natural sites in the region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra.
At the end of the visit, Gonzalo Sanchez Alvarez Castellanos will lead a conference at the multidisciplinary faculty of Es-Semara, during which he will present his work entitled “Rock engravings in southern Morocco,” which was published in Spain last February.
