Rabat – Celebrating Moroccan Sahrawi women, the Moroccan General Consulate in Strasbourg is hosting “The Moroccan Sahara Days” cultural event on March 7-8.

The event is dedicated to discussing the history of the Moroccan Sahara and the culture of the desert.

Additionally, the Moroccan Sahara Days honors the actions of members of the Moroccan community and their constant mobilization in defense of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, the event is an opportunity to pay tribute to Sahrawi women and their role in Morocco’s southern provinces, according to a press release from the consulate.

The event’s symposium will also shed light on the human rights situation of women in Tindouf camps who are subjected to “kidnappings and violations of their rights on a daily basis,” Moroccan state news agency MAP reported

The two-day agenda includes an “extensive program” that includes debates and exchanges on the reality of the conflict around the Western Sahara, its history, and the thousand-year-old culture of the desert.

The consulate will screen two documentaries: “Morocco and the liberation movements in Africa” by Hassan El Bouharrouti and“Zawaya Al-Sahraa, Zawaya Al-Watan” by Majda Benkirane.

Boubker Hamdani, the President of the Center for Strategic Reflection and Defense of Democracy (CRSSD), will moderate the conference about the role of the Moroccan diaspora in defending national issues, particularly territorial integrity.

For her part, Sahrawi activist Aicha Douihi, President of the Sahrawi Observatory for Peace, Democracy and Human Rights (OSPDH), will talk about the human rights situation in the Tindouf camps and the abuses inflicted against Sahrawis, particularly women.

Through awards, the consulate will pay tribute to activists who have consistently demonstrated unwavering support and commitment in defending Morocco’s interests, particularly the territorial integrity of their country of origin.

The consulate concluded the statement, saying that “Moroccan Sahara Days” is part of the Consulate’s activities to ensure attachment and close communication with Morocco’s diaspora.
