Rabat – The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested an ISIS-affiliated suspect in Tata, central Morocco today, March 2.

BCIJ made the arrest in collaboration with Morocco’s Central Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a statement from BCIJ said.

The arrest operation came after BCIJ’s investigation to discover the suspects’ alleged involvement in the preparation and execution of terrorist acts.

The suspect is said to have downloaded and collected several digital contents from extremist websites to learn about products and preparations used for manufacturing explosives with the ultimate goal of using them in terror operations.

The suspect was reportedly preparing his terror plot in collaboration with another extremist who is active abroad. The extremist’s activity is linked to terrorist attacks in Europe, providing funds and strategical support for terror members to purchase weapons and materials used to manufacture explosives.

The arrested man is also suspected of attempting to recruit people for terrorist operations.

BCIJ’s investigation demonstrated that the suspect planned to carry out terrorist attacks against foreign nationals in Morocco, senior officials, security departments, government establishments, banks, and sensitive security buildings.

BCIJ statement said that the suspect had been uploading photos of the targets from the internet.

Search operation at the suspect’s house enabled BCIJ to seize suspicious substances used in the manufacture of explosives, including sulfur, coal powder, a large quantity of fertilizer, an electronic scale, computer equipment containing digital data on explosives manufacturings, and displayed extremist posters.

The BCIJ put the suspect in custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances of the case and identify other possible accomplices.

ThBCIJ concluded the statement, emphasizing that the recent security operation reveals the persistence of terror threats seeking to undermine the safety of citizens and the country’s security.
