Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced today an initiative for departments in charge of road safety. They launched an action plan against “spectacular” and dangerous driving habits.

DGSN vowed serious penalties against dangerous driving behaviors that threaten the safety of road users and endanger people’s property. They also apply to public disturbances, especially in the late hours at night.

DGSN said it mobilized all road and traffic, police teams, across the country to strengthen control operations at various levels of circuits and roads, where this type of “spectacular and dangerous driving” occurs.

This kind of driving causes “serious accidents due to the recklessness of drivers,” the statement added.

The police directorate vowed a campaign to arrest perpetrators and subject them to necessary legal investigations.

DGSN warned that it has prepared road police teams and units to use “firm and sound application of the law against road users who modify technical characteristics of their vehicles without submitting [their vehicles]  the to the necessary validation.”

Morocco’s DGSN also adopted an awareness-raising approach to support all the measures put in place. This includes integrating awareness of the dangers of hazardous driving in the education kits that police personnel showcase during children’s school awareness campaigns.
