Fez – To mark the World Arabic Language Day, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of  Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane hosted on December 21 the Second International Conference on Education.

Themed “The Role of Literacy in Knowledge Acquisition,” the conference explored the latest developments in teaching and learning, laying a fertile ground for participating researchers to interact and share their experience on the issue of literacy and knowledge acquisition.

The event focused on the strategies and approaches for teaching and learning the Arabic language, delivering several lectures that tackled the acquisition of reading and writing skills in Arabic.

Participants also discussed future research projects and potential institutional partnerships and scientific cooperation.

According to the event’s organizing committee, the conference aimed to provide a solid ground for training and research for both students and researchers to share techniques of knowledge acquisition.

The conference program included lectures on a wide range of topics, including literacy, knowledge acquisition, and the assessment of information communication technology (ICT) in teaching.

Discussions also covered techniques and approaches to teaching and learning Arabic, with panelists delivering their presentations in three languages – Arabic, English, and French.

The program dedicated a fair share of workshops to introduce both students and young researchers to the newly-introduced methods of teaching and learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alongside the strong Moroccan representation, the event witnessed the participation of researchers from different countries around the globe such as Qatar, Tunisia, and the United Kingdom.

The conference tackled some of today’s most pressing challenges facing students and educators worldwide, namely the question of the education path to follow amid the ongoing COVID crisis.

It also sought to provide optimal solutions to several issues that students encounter in their learning process, namely dyslexia, as well as speaking and writing deficiencies.
