Rabat – The police department in Waukesha, a town in Wisconsin, confirmed today that five people died after a car ran through a Christmas parade on Sunday.

The town’s police department published a social media announcement, confirming the five fatalities.

“Over 40 are injured,” the Waukesha Police Department added.

The statement emphasized that the numbers may change as further data is collected.

“Many people have self-transported to area hospitals. The police Department has the person of interest in custody,” the police said.

The Waukesha Police Department informed citizens and residents that shows and businesses in the area “should remain closed as the entry and exit from Main Street will not be allowed.”

It added, “The scene is still fluid, and the investigation is ongoing. The community mourns the loss of our community members and those injured. We are asking for the community to come together during this time and to keep the families in your prayers.” 

The incident being investigated took place at about 22:30 GMT yesterday, making international headlines today. 

One video of the incident shows a red SUV speeding through the crowd at the parade. Another video depicts law enforcement officers opening fire on the suspect vehicle as it drove through the parade.
