Fez – On its search engine home page, Google has changed its official logo to a “doodle” depicting the Moroccan flag waving high in the sky to commemorate the country’s national anniversary.

Today, November 18, Morocco celebrates its independence day. The event marks the 66th Independence Anniversaryafter Moroccans broke free from European colonization.

On March 2, 1956, the kingdom declared independence from French colonial rule, and on April 7, 1956, it declared independence from Spain. The 2nd of March of each year was the date Morocco celebrated its independence.

Two days after his return from forced exile, King Mohammed V delivered a speech from Rabat on November 18, 1955, marking the end of the age of Spanish and French colonialism.

When King Mohammed’s son, King Hassan II, ascended the throne in 1961, he officially changed the date of Morocco’s Independence Day as a tribute to his father.

Google’s celebration of Morocco’s Independence Day has become a yearly tradition, in which the search engine wears the national colors.

Google “doodles” are decorative changes to the Google logo intended to commemorate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of renowned artists, scientists, and athletes.

The Google logo that shows on search results pages changes depending on your IP address and location.
