Rabat – The Moroccan government has decided to adopt a “vaccine pass” for travel and access to public spaces, starting Thursday, an official statement announced today.
The measure entails allowing vaccinated people with a valid vaccine pass to move freely between cities and provinces across Morocco on private or public transportation.
The pass is also necessary to travel abroad.
Civil servants, employees, and users of administrations are also required to provide the vaccine pass to access public, semi-public, and private administrations.
“It is necessary to present this pass” to access public spaces, such as hotels, tourist establishments, restaurants, cafes, closed spaces, shops, sports halls, and hammams,” said the government’s statement.
It warned all officials in the public and private sectors to ensure the sound application of all the measures in establishments that are under their direct legal responsibility.
The new measure is meant to strengthen the positive trend Morocco’s COVID situation has witnessed in recent weeks amid the effectiveness of the rapidly progressing national vaccination campaign.
While authorities take note of the gradual drop in the number of COVID-19 cases across Morocco, the statement said, the introduction of the vaccine pass is designed to further contain and prevent the spread of COVID in the country.
Citizens who have received two doses of a COVID vaccine must download the vaccine pass from www.liqahcorona.ma, the official website of Morocco’ vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
In case of difficulties to download the document from the relevant website, the vaccinated can also request the vaccine pass from public administration offices close to their place of residence.
The government concluded its statement by calling on non-vaccinated citizens to receive their two doses of vaccine as soon as possible and those vaccinated for more than six months to take their third dose to strengthen their immunity.
