Morocco Celebrates its First-Ever National Freelancers Day

Rabat – Commons Work and Perspective Media organized Morocco’s first National Freelancers Day (NFD) to bring together self-employed individuals across Morocco for workshops, training and experience sharing sessions.

The NFD was held on August 28 at Commons Zerktouni, a co-working space located on Boulevard de la Resistance, Casablanca, providing offices and coworking spaces for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

The training workshops focused on different components such as personal development, finance, marketing, branding, and an opportunity to discuss experiences with mentors and exchange information.

Kawtar Benhammou, Head of Ecosystem Development and Operations at Commons Morocco, and Nassim El-Qochairi, CEO of Perspective Media inaugurated the event by giving an opening speech to welcome freelancers and entrepreneurs.

Benhammou and El-Qochairi spoke to Morocco World News about this first event of its kind in Morocco, stating that this occasion is a given opportunity for freelancers and self-employed people to “reflect, learn, and have fun.”

“NFD aims to enhance the freelancing field in Morocco through organizing workshops dedicated to improve freelancers’ skills,” stated El-Qochairi.

When asked about future aspirations, their will is to boost Morocco’s entrepreneurship ecosystem within the next 10 years, especially by creating favorable environments for freelancers.

“The creative ecosystem in Morocco is still at an early stage and needs to be developed. We [entrepreneurs and freelancers] need to gather and map the ecosystem, and to work on different aspects of Morocco’s needs,” El-Qochairi emphasized.

The event featured 7 professional speakers and experts in different fields, who hosted the aforementioned training sessions.

Rim Raoudi, a personal development coach, Houssam ElHatifi, managing director of Zodirec consulting, and Sara Zouad, co-founder and managing director of brand builder agency, facilitated the aforementioned workshops for young and aspiring Moroccan freelancers and entrepreneurs.

“This type of event is key for the development and maturity of the Moroccan freelancer and its ecosystem in particular, and the creative ecosystem in general,” said coach Zouad in a press release.

The second half of the event was centered around games and fun activities available on Commons Zerktouni’s rooftop, which aimed to create synergies and encourage collaboration among participants.

The organizers intend to  hold a series of promising events and networking sessions, while continuously focusing on creating free educational content on their social media platforms and official website for aspiring Moroccan youths seeking to learn more about freelancing, branding, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Such initiatives are aiming to enlarge the social and professional networks of young Moroccan entrepreneurs. The 2021 NFD in Morocco successfully concluded, resulting in the attendance of more than 45 participants and over 50,000 people reached through the project’s social media platforms.

NFD has always been a highlight in freelancers’ calendars all around the world, and with the industry’s rapid growth in Morocco, self-employed people are in need of guidance and advice to create a reliable community and to develop the country’s timid ecosystem.
