Meknes – The Forum FAR Maroc has confirmed the receipt of the Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey on September 17.

The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) executed the transfer of the armaments through its air service. This delivery falls under the agreement between Morocco and Turkey regarding the purchase of 13 Bayraktar TB2.

Morocco’s FAR ordered 13 Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) in an agreement with Turkey with a budget of MAD 626 million ($70 million) last April. The Turkish armed drones are known for their medium-altitude and long-endurance (MALE), capable of operating for an extended period of time.

A number of FAR personnel attended a training program in Turkey in July. The drones made a positive contribution to the Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Baku won the war because of the Bayraktar TB2.

The agreement allows Morocco to strengthen its FAR defensive and territory control capabilities. The North African country has been modernizing its armaments heavily to preserve regional and strategic stability.

Morocco has been recently concluding agreements with the US, France, Israel, or Turkey.

Moreover, Morocco intends to prosper in its role as a regional military power in order to handle destabilizing threats in the region.

The Polisario front recently violated a treaty regarding the buffer zone in Morocco’s borders. The Polisario’s militia have repeatedly entered the zone without respecting the understandings achieved under the UN roundtable agreements.

In April, a Moroccan drone operation is reported to have killed Polisario commander Addah Al-Bendir while he was leading an attack on Moroccan positions along the border.
