Rabat – The National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) and the Istiqlal Party (PI) have decided to cooperate and work together to form a majority in the elected councils where they are represented.
In a joint statement issued this Friday, the triumvirate of the September 8 polls specify that this decision aims “to strengthen the institutions of the councils and create harmony and stability within them” to focus on issues and challenges raised by citizens.
If the alliance of the leading trio has not yet been formalized in terms of the formation of the government, it has now been officially formalized in regards to the formation of the community.
They called their elected officials in the same statement to stick to this direction and respect the decision adopted by the leadership of the three parties, within a limit of openness to other political components.
The parties stressed that in case of non compliance, impeachment proceedings would be pursued.
The winning parties also noted that their decision reflects their concern and willingness to advance the electoral process, further respecting the choice of the voters and distancing themselves from unhealthy practices, given that “parties often try to control the political map to serve their interests at the expense of the general interest.”
Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s newly appointed Prime Minister, has been holding consultations to form a new government since Monday, September 13.
Akhannouch said he “held meetings with a group of political party leaders, where each party presented its vision” for the formation of a new government.
The outcome of the 2021 election was unexpected, as many observers did not see the monumental fall of the ruling Justice and Development party (PJD), which had been in power for a decade.
The RNI topped the polling by a considerable margin, while PJD was reduced to its 90s status, the Independence Party , the USFP and the PPS revived their electorates, with PAM having to wait at least five more years to finally lead a government.
